| COLLECTOR LINGO The
following list was developed by Ertl as a guideline for the terms most often used on their
farm toy collectibles.
Precision Classics - refers to the highly detailed farm toy replicas
made by Ertl with many more parts and detailing than most other farm toys. Not made in any
set limited quantities but production is usually limited to 2 or 3 years. Precision is a
trademark name for the Ertl's line of toys and does not include or refer to items made by
Franklin Mint, Danbury Mint, etc.
Collector Edition - replicas based on orders received prior to
production. A Collector Edition is always different from other models. There is usually a
change in tooling, decals, the paint scheme or construction of the item. Collector
editions will usually have die-cast rims, 3-point hitches, and other special features not
found on the regular or shelf model version (see below). Collector Editions will
always have a die-cast insert stating "Collector Edition". The packaging usually
is marked as a collector edition as well.
Limited Edition - farm toy replicas which are announced prior to order
taking as a set quantity run. For example - 1 of 5000. Limited Editions usually will have
a decal, paint scheme or construction change from other models made from the same tooling.
Limited Edition, and sometimes "1 of xxxx" will appear on the toy, package or
both but not always. This can be noted, but is not necessarily done, with a die-cast
insert or special decal.
Special Edition - replicas which commemorate a special event, for
example - tractor introductions, dealer meetings, toy and farm shows. The special event
being commemorated is in the die-cast insert or on a decal. These may often been collector
edition or shelf model tractors previously made with slight changes in front axles or
decaling.
Custom Edition - a toy replica made for special customers like the
FFA, 4-H or smaller toy shows. Modified shelf models are used and customized usually with
a decal and sometimes a die-cast insert.
Shelf/Regular Model - replicas which are not limited in production in
any way. No inserts are die-cast into the casting. These models usually have plastic rims
and do not have detailing like levers or 3-point hitches. Length of production may vary
from model to model.
